I have been in contact with John Harris the Commanding Officer of the UKG regarding induction events on the Island and the fact we have potential members here unable to do mainland troops. Below is a copy of his response: Hi Matt, There are going to be some changes to the way the inductions work, and I have been working for the last 5 days putting this together (as well as other things). I am putting together some new stuff for 2008, and that is one of the main changes I will be talking about. In effect, it will mean that inductions are going to be far more accessible, even for those not on the mainland. In fact I believe it will remove the disadvantage the IOW guys have had to deal with altogether. I am hoping to put these changes to the Garrison in the next couple of weeks (still a lot of work to be done yet), but certainly before the end of January. There will no problem with your potential Vader only attending 'Island' events. Good on him for the commitment too. Thanks, John So there you go . I will keep you all updated on any news as and when I get it. Best go get signed up to the UKG now Glen ;D

What am I looking for? Six pages of banter about inductions...my life is too short. Tell me when and when with as much notice as possible. I find the UKG site like fitting wheels to a tomato. Time consuming and utterly pointless. ;D

Cheers Matt. This is good news. The UKG had fallen from my graces but they may have just redeemed themselves.

I found the UKG site a bit " complicated" at first, but found that the more guys I met in person from the garrison the more I could interact and "get" the forums. Its a whole community on there, not just a when and where type deal. But then again your not the first guys I have heard to complain about the place lol, so you definateley have a point. ;D Rest assured , I will keep everyone apraised of ALL important developements that effect us. ;D

COULD ALL UKG MEMBERS PLEASE FOLLOW THE LINK AND READ THE POST. ukgarrison.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15448So how does this affect us? Well to be honest I'm not sure untill I speak to JH but I will be requesting consideration for the position of Field Events Officer. This would enable me to both run UKG events on the IOW AND conduct Inductions ;D There are however a few issues we need to discuss amongst ourselves , top amongst these being what kind of event(s) can we run on the island that will fulfill the UKG criteria, ie Changing facilities , spotters etc. One of our chief problems will be that a lot of the events we do down here is not compatible with their rules ( which we will continue to do under The Vectis Remnant banner ) eg: The "bucket rattling" type troop, Flyer handing out. School fetes ( sadly they had major issues at a couple last year , therefore they will not be cleared by them, but we will continue to do them ). There are however a couple of potential events we could try to stage in the near future which "could" be made induction compatable with a bit of work. Cheifly these are: FANBOYS:THE MOVIE . Due out March (?) It should be possible to tie up with Cinemax in some kind of promotion. St Marys Hospital Childrens Ward. Dependant on if they want us , but could be a go'er. THE FORCE UNLEASHED. If we could get together with HMV or Game we "may" be able to use this event. The Carnivals. A bit too far into the calander for my liking but if the worst comes to the worst ........ But I'm sure you peeps can come up with more Ideas than that. This is of course just considering IOW events. For those able to get over to Southampton there will be some regional events coming up. Thoughts people please.

Seriously, looks like a good and needed overhaul at UKG. Agreed. CE just took up so much of the staff's time ( over 12 months in some cases) and it led to a massive influx of members just when the staff had reached "burn out".

NO! But i did have a rather nice Victoria sponge at Freshwater memorial hall on jumble day 29 years ago. Mrs Rippling does make exceedingly good cakes. What was off putting was her smell fo stale Camp coffee breath, oh well it never hurt me, besides i was a lucky boy that day as i won a Airfix spit fire on the raffle and Mr Douglas the care taker showd me his keys and fury rabbit in his dark cupboard, he said that was our secret!

Im happy to go to the mainland to get inducted if needs be, but it would be nice to do it on the island if possible. I cant log on to ukg at the moment as changing your email address temp freezes your account. God knows why changing personal info should do this but there you go !!!! If anything important happens you will have to let me know till they reactivate my account
